The Hanging Garden; a green paradise in the heart of Paris
Categories : Visit Paris, published on : 7/4/19
Did you know that in the heart of Paris you can find an oasis of greenery perched 27 metres over the city’s streets on the roof of a car park? The Jardin Suspendu (Hanging Garden), the largest rooftop garden in Paris, is located at the Porte de Versailles Exhibition Centre in the 15th arrondissement. A 3,500 m2 unused parking space is home to a verdant terrace perched between heaven and earth, offering visitors a wonderful opportunity for some summer relaxation and a breathtaking panoramic view.
An unprecedented planted experience
Born from the imagination of the Passage Enchanté organisation, this Jardin Suspendu is a modern version of the Hanging Gardens of Babylon, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. This unique planted space created on a vertical plane 27 metres above the ground uses a collection of planters and plant walls to create a natural climbing environment in an artificial space. Completed by a large collection of olive trees, lemon trees, Japanese maples, cacti and more, the 100 m2 Jardin Suspendu more than fulfils its purpose of bringing nature into the urban environment. A relaxing and inspiring Eden where you can enjoy some tranquil time away from the Parisian hustle and bustle.
Activities and relaxation on the agenda
The Jardin Suspendu is the perfect place to get some fresh air and enjoy the sun. It boasts pop-up bars, a food court with a diverse range for all tastes, giant screens showing World Cup matches, DJ Sets, open-air cinema, yoga classes, culinary workshops and many other fun activities to enjoy. But perhaps the true charm of the Jardin Suspendu can be found in its many nooks and crannies; green havens where you can savour the fresh air and sunshine and enjoy exquisitely timeless moments.
