A sunny picnic in the Parc Montsouris
Categories : Entertainment, published on : 6/9/16
Located in the 14th arrondissement of Paris, between the Rue d'Alesia and the Cité Universitaire, the Parc Montsouris is one of the largest green spaces in the capital. Here, now that the warm and sunny days have returned, you can enjoy a delightful walk and a relaxing picnic amidst beautiful surroundings. It will be one of the high points of your stay at the Hotel Eden!
A picnic in the Parc Montsouris!
The park owes its name to a windmill that once stood in the vicinity, and is one of the four large public parks created in the capital at the behest of Napoleon III. The emperor wished to provide spacious and pleasant green areas in which Parisians could enjoy fresh air and recreation at a time when the city was growing rapidly.
This enchanting place offers a lake, lovely trees, numerous statues and the Pavillon Montsouris. It’s the ideal spot to have a picnic while enjoying the beauties of nature and the songs of birds.
You can also discover the park’s meteorological observatory and the stele that marks the south bearing of the Paris Meridian, from which French astronomers calculated longitude until the Greenwich Meridian was universally adopted.
Don’t miss the Cité Universitaire de Paris
While you’re in the vicinity, don’t miss the opportunity to cross the street and visit the Cité Universitaire. With its wonderful buildings exhibiting an eclectic range of architectural styles, this is one of the most charming places of the capital, yet is surprisingly little known.
The Cité was created between the wars with the intention of bringing together students and intellectuals from different countries in a spirit of peace and unity.
Set in the midst of a beautiful park, the Cité offers a great location for a pleasant stroll.
Explore the Petite Ceinture
Last month we talked about the Petite Ceinture of the 15th arrondissement, located not far from the hotel. This is the route of a disused railway, which has been transformed into a nature trail. It begins in the Parc Montsouris and offers an unusual adventure not to be missed during your stay at the Hotel Eden!
