Categories : Fairs & Trade Shows, published on : 1/26/15
A Bonhams Auction is to take place in the majestic surroundings of the nave of the Grand Palais on February 4th and 5th. The renowned British auction house will present Les Grandes Marques Du Monde, a sale of some 150 rare vintage automobiles. This will be a chance to see some classic cars that are not often on public view, and the Hotel Eden warmly recommends the event.
A vintage vehicles auction at the Grand Palais
The privately owned British auction house, Bonhams, is one of the world’s oldest, largest and most respected auctioneers of antiques, fine art and other collectibles, including classic cars. The Bonhams brand, recognised throughout the world, can trace its history back to 1793, when the company was co-founded by Walter Bonham, a book specialist.
The Paris branch of Bonhams is located in the rue de la Paix. This office was set up in 2005 and held its first Parisian auction in 2009. Appropriately, the company hold their automobile auctions in one of the centres of art and industry in Paris, the magnificent Grand Palais. For this special occasion the venue will also present an exhibition celebrating French automotive engineering and the invention of the automobile to complement the sale of 150 classic cars. At the same time there will also be a wine sale and a sale of Art Nouveau and Art Deco pieces.
Among the exquisite cars of yesteryear that you can expect to see at the auction are a 1965 Aston Martin DB5 Convertible, a 1955 Bentley R-Type Continental Coupe, a 1931 Alfa Romeo 6C 1750 Supercharged Sport Spider and, going all the way back to the dawn of the automotive age, a 1904 Panhard Levassor 35 hp Sports Two Seater. Clearly, with these and many more superb examples of automotive engineering on view, it will be well worth visiting the auction simply to gaze in awe, even if you do not intend to buy! Catalogues are usually available about four weeks prior to the auction.
